Szymon Gębuś studierte Germanistik an der Universität Breslau in Polen. Im Jahr 2004 verteidigte er an dieser Universität seine Doktorarbeit mit dem Titel „Religiöse Motive im Werk Thomas Bernhards“.
Von 2017 bis 2024 war er Assistenzprofessor an der Jilin International Studies University in Changchun. Im September 2024 begann er seine Tätigkeit an der Sun-Yat-Sen-Universität.
Szymon Gębuś ist auf die Geschichte der deutschen Literatur spezialisiert, insbesondere auf die Geschichte der Gegenwartsliteratur. Er verfasste zu diesem Thema mehrere verschiedene Texte, insbesondere Essays und Rezensionen. Diese Texte wurden in verschiedenen Zeitschriften und Sammelwerken in Polen und im Ausland, darunter auch in Deutschland, veröffentlicht.
Außerdem interessiert er sich für die Methodik des Fremdsprachenunterrichts und verfügt über viel Erfahrung im Unterrichten von Polnisch als Fremdsprache.
An unserer Universität führt er Deutschkurse sowie Kurse zur Geschichte der deutschen Literatur.
